Trip Itinerary
Day 1
Meet at the North Rim in Grand Canyon National Park. We will either camp at the backpackers campsite or stay in the cabins. Let’s get to know the crew, check gear, have dinner and head to the rim for sunset. And get to bed early.
Day 2
Catch the 7am shuttle to the South Rim Village about noon.(4.5 hour ride). This shuttle experience is one of a kind and we will learn tons of cool facts about the canyon and how it was formed. We make a stop at the Historic Navajo Bridge in Marble Canyon for a chance to spot the California Condor. They love hanging under the bridge.
Section: Bright Angel Trailhead to Havasupai Campground
Hiking Distance: 5 miles (includes side hikes)
Highlights: While descending the Canyon we hike through layers of the earths history. Bright Angel trial follows Bright Angel Fault, a naturally occurring break in the canyon’s shear cliffs that allows us access to the inner canyon. We end our night with a sunset hike to Plateau Point! Laura’s favorite spot in the canyon.
Day 3
Section: Havasupai Gardens to Bright Angel Campsite
Hiking Distance: 7
Highlights: We start off the morning slack packing to Plateau Point for sunrise. Laura’s favorite spot in the canyon! Back to camp, pack up and we keep descending to the Colorado River. The Silver Bridge is special. On a windy day it can sure be exhilarating. After hitting camp we can head over to Phantom Ranch for a meal, glass of lemonade. AND don’t forget to send a postcard home from the last place in the country that has mail service my mule. Yep! A mule will carry your letter out of the canyon. Pretty cool!
Day 4
Section: Bright Angel Campground to Cottonwood Campground
Hiking Distance: 10 miles
Highlights: We start off the day crossing bridges over the Bright Angel Creek as we pass through what is known as “The Box”. It is a very cool part of our journey. And when I say cool I mean the hottest part of the canyon because the canyon walls start to close in. We end the Box at Ribbon Falls where we can get wet and cool off. Ribbon Falls is a sacred place and needs to be respected. If we have enough daylight we will try to find the Hidden Upper Ribbon Falls.
Day 5
Section: Cottonwood Campground to North Rim Trailhead
Hiking Distance: 7 miles
Highlights: Climbing out of the canyon can be intimidating. But it’s just one step at a time. The trail is rugged. The views are never-ending. Roaring Springs Waterfall, Red Rock Wall, Supai Tunnel and completing our journey by celebrating the canyon at the Coconino overlook.
