Trip Itinerary

Day 1 – Hiking/Snowshoeing

Trails – Shovel Trail

Rivers – Onions River

11am – Meet at Tettegauche State Park Visitors Center

Hike Shovel trail on the shoreline of Lake Superior. Head back to visitor center and get to know the group, have lunch, and drive to the Onion River trailhead.

The Onion River will be our river trail for the day. The picture above is a waterfall on the Onion, we just hiked up to the top. So much fun. Especially when you can hear the rushing water below.

Head to the Hostel. Get checked in and warmed up.

Dinner in town or at hostel

Sunset and bonfire at the hostel

Day two will be the day of River Gorges

These rapid flowing rivers have eroded the softer bedrock to form the deep parts of the gorges. Some bedrock has harder parts, these resist erosion which creates the falls and cascades along the North Shore

Day 2 – Snowshoeing

Rivers – Kadunce River Gorge and Devils Track River Gorge

Breakfast at hostel/in town

Snowshoe the Kadunce River Gorge – One of my favorite rivers to walk, frozen or not. The Kadunce sports 11 waterfalls. We’ll snowshoe as far as the river allows.

Hostel or town for lunch

Afternoon – Head South of Grand Marias and snowshoe Devil’s Track River Gorge. This river is rugged, with high walls and

Hostel or town for dinner

Bonfire if weather allows

Day 3 – Pincushion Overlook

Breakfast at Hostel or in town.

Head to Pincushion Trailhead

Snowshoe on the Superior Hiking Trial high above Grand Marias to the famous Pincushion overlook. This trip will be a 3.5 mile trip total. Pincushion overlooks Grand Marias, Lake Superior, Devils Track River valley, and the Sawtooth mountains. Fabulous Vista. Worth the work.

Take some final pictures and say goodbye until next time.
